You Deserve A Doula. You Deserve A Back Up Too. Part V.

This is part five of our back up doula series. Over the last few months, we have shared a bit more about who each of our back up doulas are so that you can get to know them and love them as much as we do. We are really looking forward to sharing the final installment of our series next month where we will share some our clients' thoughts and experiences with back up doula support.

Trish is a DONA International certified birth doula and trained postpartum doula.
She is passionate about helping couples feel prepared and empowered! Understanding the psychology of labour and how we can work at one with our bodies is amazing. She loves creating a calm and loving atmosphere for labour and providing continuity of care with breastfeeding and transition to home and postpartum support.

She is an active member of the Calgary Doula Association, and is blessed to have five wonderful grandbabies!

Why did you become a doula?

In 2009 I was introduced by a midwife friend to the profession of birth and postpartum doulas. I have always loved everything to do with birth and babies and I realized that this could be a wonderful way to bring my nurturing personality, my years of experience working with families, and the skills gained through doula training, to help women/couples be supported and empowered to have a positive and rewarding birth and postpartum experience, which strengthens the family unit.

What is your favourite thing about being a doula?

I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories. I love helping build confidence in mothers, the profound emotions expressed as soon as a baby is born, and getting breastfeeding off to a good start.

If you weren’t a doula what would you be doing instead?

Probably working at an agency that helps families, ie: new immigrants.

What is your favourite thing to do when you aren’t doula-ing?

I love being with my grandchildren, visiting our kids, travelling, working with families in underdeveloped countries, going for walks with my hubby, and enjoying the mountains.

What is your favourite book/ movie/ band/ song? Why?

One of my old favourite movies is First Knight. It speaks of respect and loyalty, adventure and romance.

What is your favourite thing to do in Calgary? Why?

In the city - biking, walking, and cafes. I love being close to the mountains whether hiking, biking, camping, or cross-country skiing.

What other fun quirky things would you like to share about yourself?

I am a German Dutch, American born, Latin raised, Canadian.

Was Trish your doula? Do you love an adventurous romance? Tell us about it!
