Kim Watts (she/her)

Birth + postpartum doula

Hello! I’m Kim and a mom to three amazing adults and to my sweet ride-or-die dog, Moo.

I stayed home raising my family while dabbling in various DIY sewing and craft side hustles to keep my sanity and help out financially. As my kiddos entered elementary, I found myself in a role as an educational assistant for students with special needs. Talk about rewarding!

Becoming a doula wasn’t a whim for me and here’s why: I grew up in a large extended family in Montreal where I lived with my mother and siblings and where aunts, uncles, cousins, and my Gran lived in the same neighbourhood. This is where community was instilled in me. Everyone was there to help in any way.  It has grown to be an important piece of who I am.

I used to enjoy the stories my Gran always shared with me about raising her children during the Depression in the “Big Yard”, she called it, where all of the mothers cared for one another when they were needing more support. They were there for one another through everything from birthing their babies to sickness. They would clean the house, do laundry, take care of the older children, and make meals together all while ensuring Mom was cared for.

It unfortunately wasn’t at all like that for me and I definitely would have benefitted from some doula support. A shift happened in me when I had an abrupt wake up call a few years ago with cancer. I knew it was time to start living even more in line with where I could really help others…

I’d like to give birthing parents and their families the kind of support they deserve as they navigate their way through the mental and physical challenges that come with giving birth to a child. And with a sense of humour along the way!! It’s almost a must. Life is way too serious at times. No one needs to do this alone!
